Welcome to the Carter County School District's Safety Compliance & Risk Management Website

The Programs developed through Risk Management assist Principals and Supervisors with the regulations established by the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Fire Prevention Code, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Carter County School District's Risk Management Program seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for all employees, students and visitors.  The prevention of injuries, illnesses and property damage is a primary concern.  The programs that are put into place help to ensure the safety of all employees.

We are committed to providing our employees with the necessary training on how to recognize hazards associated with their work and how to protect themselves.  Employees in turn must practice safe-work procedures, universal precautions and understand that working safely is a daily job requirement.

 Maintaining a Safe Work Environment

It is important that all employees pay attention to their work environment and report any hazards.  The employees who work in a specific building will most likely be the first ones to notice something that is not safe.  If we all work together, we can eliminate workplace hazards.

Consider the following statistics regarding school-related accidents:1

bulletAccidents are the leading cause of death between ages 1-38.
bulletAccidents are the fourth leading cause of death for all age groups.
bulletAccidents claim more lives than the six leading diseases for children ages 1-14.
bulletAccidents claim more lives than ALL causes combined and about four times more than the next leading cause of death for youths 15-24.

If you know of any hazards in any area of our district, please contact Pam Kouns, Risk Management Coordinator at 474-2008, by leaving a message on the Safety Hotline at 474-0001 or by sending an e-mail to the link below.
